Complete Continuing Education Package For Rhode Island Real Estate License Renewal
The Rhode Island Division of Commercial Licensing, part of the Department of Business Regulation, requires licensed salespersons and brokers to complete 24 hours of real estate continuing education every 2 years by April 30th on every even-numbered year. Of the 24 hours of CE at least 6 hours must be in CORE (mandatory) courses.
This package of courses provides the continuing education that you need to complete your Rhode Island real estate license renewal. Included in this package are:
Advanced Contract Law (3 hours, CORE) - While real estate licensees are not practicing lawyers, it is important to have a grasp of issues that my appear when dealing with contracts. This course will outline contract interpretation and performance, conditions and contingencies, and the consequences for breach of contract.
Fair Housing (3 hours, CORE) - There are many federal laws that ensure equal housing opportunities for all people. This course will go over the various fair housing laws, their history, ECOA, and various fair housing laws that licensees must comply with.
Ethics (3 hours, CORE) - This course is an article-by-article review of the National Association of REALTORS® Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Students will learn the importance of being ethical when dealing with their clients, the public, and other real estate agents.
Environmental Issues 1 (3 hours, CORE) - Environmental hazards are a factor when dealing with real estate transactions. This course describes the risks relating to lead, radon, and asbestos.
Environmental Issues 2 (3 hours, CORE) - A continuation of the first environmental hazards course, the topics covered in this course are underground storage tanks, potable water, mold, volatile organic compounds (a.k.a., dangerous stinky stuff), and drug labs.
Home Measurement Basics for Real Estate Agents (3 hours, Elective) - This course explains how homes are measured for square footage, why certain areas are counted or not counted in the livable space calculation, and how square footage may affect a house's valuation.
Residential Property Inspection (3 hours, Elective) - While real estate agents don't actually create home inspection reports, it is important to understand what goes into a report. This course will go over the various areas that a home inspector will investigate when creating a home inspection report.
Risk Management (3 hours, Elective) - This course demonstrate that risk management should be viewed as a positive strategy that will provide for increased profits. You will be introduced to concepts of risk and potential consequences that risk presents if not managed properly.
Each continuing education course is presented online in an easy-to-follow format, taking you through each topic of the course. A printable continuing education certificate will be available after course completion, which you can download, print, and attach to your real estate license renewal application. You may also use the department's eLicensing website to submit your license renewal.
