Oregon adopted new requirements in fall 2018 for handling asbestos. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality requires property owners and contractors to identify asbestos and to properly handle, package and dispose of asbestos waste from demolition and renovation projects. A new requirement that's especially applicable to the real estate industry is the new residential renovation survey requirement.
Properly handling asbestos protects public health. When asbestos is disturbed, tiny fibers are released into the air and may cause lung cancer and other illnesses. There's no known safe level of exposure.
There are three main changes to Oregon’s asbestos requirements:

In this section, we will cover new home technologies that either sellers have already incorporated into their house, potentially increasing its value, or that buyers might consider for the same reason, as well as for increased comfort and cost savings. We will discuss which new technologies can potentially increase efficiency and reduced energy costs (and a lighter touch on the planet) as well as the pitfalls to avoid when manufacturers/sellers overstate performances. Of course we can't cover them all. This is a selection of some of the most relevant to residential home buyers and home owners.

Contamination from leaking heating oil tanks emerged as an environmental issue in Oregon in the 1980s. In 1999, Oregon developed a contractor certification system for heating oil tank cleanups designed to match timelines and needs of typical residential real estate transactions. Current estimates suggest only one third of the tanks in Oregon have been identified so far.
In this webinar Oregon DEQ staff will summarize information about remaining heating oil tanks and common issues with project work. Homeowner and real estate transaction interests will be emphasized. We will also review a DEQ budget request being prepared for the 2019 legislative session intended to improve the effectiveness and outcomes of this work. DEQ is seeking questions and comments about these issues from Realtors. The input from this session may influence design, funding and pace of heating oil tank cleanups in Oregon.
A webinar titled "Heating Oil Tank Closures in Oregon: Status and Process" was presented by OAR in March 2018 with basic information about tank discovery, investigation and closure. Viewing it before this session will provide background but is not a prerequisite.

SB 608 has been passed by the Oregon Legislature and signed into law by Governor Kate Brown, bringing major changes to our profession. The bill eliminates no-cause evictions and imposes a new, statewide system of rent control. These changes will have a monumental effect on how we do business, and every Oregon property manager must be prepared to adapt to these drastically different rental policies. In this webinar, I will thoroughly explain each aspect of SB 608, go into detail on how each change brought about by the bill will affect you and how you can best deal with these new regulations going forward. My hope is to empower you with the information and tools needed to weather the storm and remain successful in Oregon’s new rental market. These changes may be troublesome and intimidating, but with proper preparation we can make sure they are not catastrophic.
