Do I have to read the material?
You should read the course text before taking a quiz or final exam. The quizzes and course final exam is based off of the course material. The OnlineEd course texts are regularly adjusted for changes in laws, as are the test questions themselves.
Can you send me any books or CDs?
With exception, all course materials are online. If you would like to print out the material and read it offline we offer both a "printer-friendly" and PDF version with every course. Some courses have a supplemental textbook of the online course materials available for purchase. In some cases, the course may also be available as a free downloadable Mp3 audio file for each chapter. Look for the "MP3 Audio Included" graphic next to the course title on the Course Catalog page.
The downloadable Mp3s can be played through most standard computer audio players. You may also upload them to your favorite Mp3 player for study on-the-go. The file size will vary depending on the length of the course text.
The California real estate responsible broker prelicense courses are in physical textbook format with online quizzes and final exams. The California salesperson prelicense course materials are online.
How many questions are on a quiz or final exam?
Each course will typically have a different number of questions, depending on the context of the course material. You might have course with chapter quizzes that only contain 5 questions, or you might have one that has 20 or more. Final exams can have 30 or more questions.
What happens if I fail a quiz or final exam?
If you do not receive a passing grade on a test, you must try again until you receive the passing score or higher. You will need to review the chapter text and then take the test again. The course completion certificate will not be issued until you have completed all of the tests. Before taking each quiz and final, the OnlineEd site will inform you what the minimum passing score for your test will be.
How long do I have to wait before taking a final exam?
Usually you can take your final exam as soon as you complete all of the required chapter quizzes in a course, but there are some legal exceptions:
- California - For those who are working on a Californian real estate license, California Department of Real Estate (DRE) regulations require that you wait 24 hours from enrollment before completing a course. After that you may only complete 15 credit hours within any given 24-hour period.
How do I pass a quiz or final exam?
The minimum passing score will vary by each course and state, but normally the score will be between 60% and 75% correct. You will be informed of the current test's passing score before you start the exam.
What happens once I have completed a course?
If you are taking a continuing education course to renew your license, you can print out your certificate as soon as the course has been completed. If you are taking a new licensee course then the certificate will be be mailed to you.
Do you notify my state's licensing department or do I?
This depends on your state regulations. For some states that don't require providers to notify the regulatory agencies, you will notify your state agency when you are renewing your license. For other jurisdictions that require agency notification (such as Georgia or the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System [NMLS]), we will notify the agency of course completion. It is always a good risk management strategy to keep copies of your continuing education certificates in case your licensing renewal records are audited by your regulatory agency.
I waited until the last minute to renew my real estate license. Can I finish this in time?
The amount of time it takes to complete a course depends on the effort you put into it. Some courses are only a few credit hours long, which can be done in a day. California continuing education students may only complete 15 credit hours within any given 24 hour period (by California state law).
