How To Renew Your Georgia Real Estate License

The Georgia Real Estate Commission requires 36 hours of continuing education to renew a 4-year Georgia real estate salesperson license. Georgia real estate continuing education credits must be acquired within the 4-year period to count towards the license renewal requirement. If renewing on or after July 1st, 2016, at least 3 hours of your continuing education must be on License Law courses.

If you hold a Georgia salesperson's license you will be required to complete a 25-hour post license course during your first year after obtaining the license. The post license course will count as 9 hours of your 36-hour Georgia real estate continuing education, so you must complete the remaining 27 hours during your first renewal period.

The Georgia REC has set up an online license renewal system to make paying the renewal fee simpler. Continuing education credits are added to GREC's online system directly by continuing education providers when real estate licensees pass continuing education courses required to renew their license.

If a licensee delays completing the 36 hours of license renewal credits until the last minute and feels they won't be able to finish before the license expiration date, the license renewal fee can still be paid via the online system. The license status will change from active to inactive at the expiration date, until the Georgia real estate continuing education courses courses have been completed and the licensee submits the proper form. If the renewal fee is not paid before the license expired, a higher priced reinstatement fee must be paid to reactivate the license and a different form must be completed. Be sure to get your GA real estate continuing education completed on time!
